EAST END PARK

Woodstock, VT

Recipient of the 2010 Vermont Public Space Honorable Mention

JRLA and Environmental Designer, Sharon Earn, designed the 2.4-acre riverfront park in collaboration with Sustainable Woodstock’s East End Action Group. The village-owned parcel was in derelict condition, serving as the snow dump and highway department storage area.

The park, located in the Village’s east end, is the first step in improving the aesthetic and environmental quality of the commercial gateway along Route 4. It provides beautiful views into the adjacent national park land and of the distant hills, and offers the only public access to the Ottaquechee River within the village.

The plan for the park incorporates environmental, social, and economic sustainability practices and is intended to serve as a catalyst for private and capital investment, new business activity, and a strengthened tax base.

Park features include a stone amphitheater, a river stone/lawn labyrinth, a wood pergola with a mixed variety of grapes, Dan Snow’s sculpture, “Trilitho", a slide, rock climb and rope climb, a permaculture garden, open lawn, river-edge seating, and a wide variety of native plants.
