Killington Retreat

Killington, VT

This modern two-level home was constructed on a wooded hillside in Killington, VT, where the client sought a quiet refuge away from a fast-paced international business.

To enhance a sense of full integration of house and woodland, minimal canopy trees were removed during construction, resulting in the overhanging house decks ‘floating’ in the trees.

A river stone border surrounds the house foundation providing a clean transition to the adjacent live-edge bluestone walks, field stone stairs and palette of mixed ferns, native trees, shrubs, and groundcover that bleed into the surrounding woodland.

A natural spring was captured and contained in a boulder-lined stream along the west edge of the property. It falls in a series of small pools, then flows under a large stone slab bridge leading to the fire pit terrace, before cascading over the north slope.
